How to Buy
Questions and Answers
This page provides answers to privacy and security questions involving the Online Store. For detailed information on site-wide privacy policies please see the Privacy Statement.
Why do I need to provide an email address to order? - There are three main reasons we require an email address. First, because many Manifold products require sending a serial number or technical support token by email. These serial numbers or tech support tokens are required to install and use the product. Another important reason is that some Manifold products are "download only" products for which the download instructions are sent by email. Finally, in order to establish and maintain business communications relevant to fulfilling orders placed with Manifold we require an email address.
Do you use registration information to send spam? - No. Customers who have purchased products may receive critical notifications from Manifold but will not be targeted with advertising. Email addresses and other contact information are used only for these purposes: to fulfill orders, to notify customers of business and technical changes such as in the operation of the Store, to provide notification of technical support issues for purchased products, to clear credit card authorizations and other financial matters directly related to order processing. Current Manifold System configurations will automatically check for updates so email is not used for routine notifications of service packs or new versions.
Do you provide registration information to any third party? - No, except for third parties such as banks directly involved in processing an order. Manifold does not give any customer or user information to third parties. See the Privacy Statement for details.
Does Manifold use Online Security, like SSL? - Yes. The Manifold® Online Store is operated by Manifold Software Limited using the highest commercially available encryption technology - 128-bit SSL encryption with Extended Validation. All confidential information is automatically encrypted before it is transmitted, to protect your confidential data from being read and interpreted.
How do I know 128-bit SSL security is used? - When connecting to a 128-bit SSL secured site you will see a "lock" icon in your browser and (with most browsers like IE and Firefox) your browser URL window will turn green to show the Extended Validation (EV) status of Manifold's specially validated SSL certificate. Your browser will also allow you to examine the security certificate being used.
What SSL security certificates are used? - Your browser will display a lock icon when connected to the Manifold Online Store and will turn the browser bar green to show the EV status of our certificate. The certificate will identify both our company, Manifold Software Limited as well as our Online Store site www.manifoldsoftwarelimited.com. Manifold's EV SSL certificate is issued by GeoTrust, one of the world's leading security certification companies. EV certificates are issued only after an extensive, in-person audit that verifies the company's identity, actual physical location, corporate status, and ownership of the site.
Why does my browser not show an SSL link to the Online Store? - It could be you are using a very old browser. GeoTrust certificate capability is "built into" all modern commercial browsers, for example, recent editions of IE and FireFox. Older editions of browsers or those not updated might require updating to recognize current certificate authorities or EV certificates.
Suggestions to improve Manifold are always welcome. Please see the Suggestions page for tips on making effective suggestions.
