Maps, Drawings, Image and Labels


Pan the display.  Click and drag with the left mouse button.


Zoom to the box.  Click and drag with the right mouse button to draw a zoom box.


Zoom in / out

Add a new layer from the Project pane.

Shift-click tab or title bar

Undock or dock a window or pane.

Ctrl-click tab or title bar

Move a docked window or pane into second, horizontal docked row or back to the main row.

Drag a tab

Drag a tab to reorder in a stack of tabs.

Click a layer tab

Make that layer the active layer.

Double-click layer tab

Turn layer on or off for display.

Ctrl-click layer tab

Zoom to fit layer.

Shift-Ctrl-click layer tab

Zoom to fit a selection in the layer.

For drawing and labels layers: Copy selected objects/labels to clipboard.


For drawing and labels layers:  Paste objects/label from clipboard.


For drawing and labels layers:  Paste using the Paste dialog for more options.   To avoid paste errors when pasting objects/label, set the mfd_id field to Ignore Field in the paste dialog when pasting objects.  That allows the destination table to automatically generate mfd_id values that avoid collisions with existing mfd_id values in the table.


Launch a quick reference guide page in the browser.


Refresh all layers.


Refresh active layer.




Select all.


Select none.


Invert the selection.

Ctrl-A then Ctrl-I

Select none.  A quick trick.

Ctrl-click an object

Select the object.

Shift-Ctrl-click an object

De-select the object.


Draw a selection box to select all objects any part of which is within the box.

Pick / Edit Objects in Drawings


Pick an object in the active layer, to show and edit attributes.   Alt-clicking away from any objects unpicks and abandons edits.


Pick an object in any visible layer, and switch the active layer to that object's layer.


Un-pick an object (if there are no uncommitted changes).

Click segment / vertex

Click any segment or vertex in a picked object to make it active in Move Coordinates mode:

  • Drag an active vertex to move that coordinate.

  • Shift-Drag an active vertex to move the entire object.

  • Ctrl-click vertices to select them.  Moving any of the selected vertices moves all of them.

  • Right-click a segment or vertex for more editing and snap options.


Click away from a picked object, or click the Values tab in the Record pane to switch back to editing Attributes


Launch context menu with many choices, including save or abandon edits.  In Move Coordinates mode, also provides editing and snap options.


Undo the last vertex added, when creating objects.


Abandon edits and exit edit mode.


Create New Objects / Measure / Edit

Choose an object create command.  

  • Click to create vertices.
  • Shift-click to end a branch, or Right-click and choose End Current Branch.
  • Right-click and choose Save Changes to finish.

Draw a path for measurements, or to split lines and areas.

Go back to Default navigation mode.


Go back to Default navigation mode.


Edit Mode / Snapping  Pick an object, then click a segment or handle to enter Edit mode.


Insert coordinates mode. Click to create a vertex.


Move coordinates mode: Click a vertex, then drag it to move it.  Shift-drag it to move the entire object.


Move + Split.  Same as Move, plus click a segment to insert a new vertex at that spot.


Toggle snapping off/on.  Operates only when editing in Move Coordinates mode or with the Path tool.


Toggle snap to Active layer only.


Snap to Coordinates: Snap to vertices.


Snap to Grid: Snap to grid steps set in Snap Parameters. 10 native units by default.


Snap to Bearing: Snap to bearing divisions set in Snap Parameters. 4 ortho directions by default.


Snap to Relative bearing: Snap to bearing divisions as aligned to the bearing of the last entered segment.


Undo / Abandon Changes, or Right-click and choose Undo Changes.


Save Changes, or Right-click and choose Save Changes.
