The View - Mode command appears with open visual windows such as map windows. It allows us to choose the cursor mode, either for navigation or selection, for creating objects in drawings, creating labels in layouts, and for measuring distances and angles or editing with the path tool.
The cursor mode can also be set using the pull down menu on the cursor button in the main toolbar.
Default - Cursor provides basic navigation and selection moves. See the User Interface and the Selection topics. |

Create Area - Enabled for drawings and labels. Create an area object. See the Editing Drawings topic. |

Create Line - Enabled for drawings and labels. Create an area object. See the Editing Drawings topic. |

Create Point - Enabled for drawings and labels. Create a line object. See the Editing Drawings topic. |
|
Create Label - Enabled for layouts. Create labels in the layout. See the Layouts topic. |

Draw Path - Measure distances and angles, and edit objects using a path. See the Measurements topic. |

Edit Control Points - Enabled for vector drawings or raster images. Add control points to a source or target window, to do georegistration using the Register pane. |

Snap Parameters - Launch the Snap Parameters dialog. See the Snap Modes topic. |
View - Mode commands that appear when a Layout has the focus are analogous:
Cursor / command mode - The pull down menu shows options for the cursor and command mode. Sample frames are specialized frames used to create legends. |

Default - Switch back to default cursor mode. |

Create North Arrow - Add a North arrow frame. Click the Create North Arrow command and then click into the layout. Edit characteristics in the Info pane, and resize / move the North arrow frame. See the Layouts: North Arrows topic. |

Create Scale Bar - Add a scale bar frame. Click the Create Scale Bar command and then click into the layout. Edit characteristics in the Info pane, and resize / move the scale bar frame. See the Layouts: Scale Bars topic. |

Create Text - Add a text frame. Add a text frame. Click the Create Text command and then click into the layout. Edit text contents and style in the Style pane, and resize / move the text frame. See the Layouts topic. |

Create Color Sample - Add a color sample frame. |

Create Area Sample - Add an area objects sample frame. |

Create Line Sample - Add a line objects sample frame. |

Create Point Sample - Add a point objects sample frame. |
